This spring, the reserve has come alive with colour. The drive to the Hayward’s Safari Sanctuary is framed by Jacaranda-lined avenues of Johannesburg and Pretoria, their blossoms painting the sky in lilac hues before the road opens to golden grasslands. And at the sanctuary itself, three baby giraffes have arrived. Gentle newcomers who greet guests at dawn and turn every morning coffee into a front-row safari.
